How Long Does a Bathroom Remodel Take? (Realistic Timelines for North Texas Homeowners)
“How long is this going to take?” is one of the first questions homeowners ask when they’re planning a bathroom project. It’s a fair question — having your bathroom out of commission is a real inconvenience.
Here are realistic timelines for each type of project we do in North Texas, along with the factors that can speed things up or slow them down.
Tub-to-Shower Conversion: 1–2 Days
A standard tub-to-shower conversion — removing the existing bathtub and installing a walk-in shower in the same footprint — takes 1–2 days for most North Texas homes.
Day 1: Tub demo and removal, surface prep, installation of new shower base and drain, waterproofing Day 2: Surround panel or tile installation, fixtures, door installation, caulk and finish work
You’ll typically have a fully functional shower by end of day two.
What makes it take longer:
- Cast iron tubs (older Fort Worth and Decatur homes) take more time to cut and remove
- Plumbing relocations — if the drain needs to move, add half a day
- Custom tile work (vs. acrylic surrounds) — tile installs require curing time
Walk-In Tub Installation: 1–3 Days
Walk-in tub installations take 1–3 days depending on your existing plumbing configuration.
Most standard installations are 2 days. The tub is delivered the first day, the plumbing connections are made, electrical connections (for jets and heated systems) are completed, and the unit is fully tested before we leave.
What makes it take longer:
- Older plumbing that needs to be updated before installation
- Electrical work if your existing bathroom circuit needs an upgrade
- Custom surround tile or panels around the tub area
Bath Liner Installation: 1 Day
Bath liner and surround installations are our fastest project — most complete in a single day. The liner is custom-fabricated before we arrive, then bonded over your existing tub surface.
You’ll have your bathroom back the same evening.
What can add a day:
- Surround panels that require a second application or custom fitting
- Mold or damage discovered during install prep that needs to be addressed first
Accessibility Modifications: 1–3 Days
Grab bar installation alone can be done in half a day. Larger accessibility projects — roll-in shower conversion, zero-threshold entry, fold-down bench installation — typically take 1–3 days depending on scope.
Full Bathroom Remodel: 1–3 Weeks
A complete bathroom renovation — new tile, new fixtures, layout changes, new vanity, new lighting — is a different category entirely. This involves multiple trades (tile, plumbing, electrical, drywall) and takes 1–3 weeks depending on scope and material availability.
Most of our work is in the 1–3 day range, which is one reason homeowners prefer our approach over general contractors for bath-specific upgrades.
How Scheduling Works
Once you schedule with TX Bath Remodel, we can typically have a crew to your home within 1–2 weeks. We’ll give you a confirmed date, and our crew shows up on time.
During the project, we do daily cleanup so your home isn’t left in disarray overnight.
